Switzerland

The Tour de Monte Rosa is a classic 100 mile trek in the Valais Alps that circles the Monte Rosa massif and neighboring 13,000 – 14,000 ft peaks. Commonly done as an 8 to 10 day hike it has an elevation gain of around 23,000 ft with the highest point being Theodul Pass at 10,810 ft. The trek straddles the Switzerland / Italy border and passes through several villages – and while most start the trek from Zermatt, Switzerland, the trip can also be started in Saas-Fee or Italian villages like Alagna Valsesia or Breuil-Cervinia. Our plan for the Monte Rosa tour was to hike clockwise from Zermatt and take a full 10 days to make our way back to Zermatt.  [ Read More ]
